August 28-September 1, 2017 Wildacres Retreat, Little Switzerland, NC

SoLaTiDo is a five-day retreat for aspiring and seasoned songwriters. Here's a chance to get away from real life and make time for your work in the company of other troubadours. Composer and producer Richard Putnam returns this year to work with the songwriters as we flesh out ournew tunes. He is an amazing musician and session player who can add most any instrument to a recording using his keyboard. Richard will work with us to polish and arrange our songs as we write them!

At SoLaTiDo you will also learn from some of the best singer/songwriters working in the region who regularly attend this workshop. The photo above demonstrates the passion of the group and how folks chip in and help build out the new tunes with harmony and added instrumentation.

Participants, whether beginning or accomplished writers, will have a chance to learn from each other in song circles, with morning writing prompts, and peer collaborations. We'll work with our guest artist each day and prepare together for a showcase of individual works-in-progress on the last night of the workshop. Once again, we will be at Wildacres with the Table Rock Writers Workshop--a group of fiction and nonfiction writers and poets. Solatido participants often like to sit in on some Table Rock faculty presentations and the writers in turn will join us for late night jam sessions and the final concert.

The Goal of SoLaTiDo is to provide a relaxing environment where we can share our music in a noncompetitive atmosphere of professional support and encouragement. Serious fun, we say.

Tuition includes room and all meals. See the registration page for details.Register.htmlshapeimage_2_link_0
Creating a musical community every year. . .
       Guest Artist 2015

Richard Putnam, music producer and composer, has been a session player in the southeast for the last 30 years. He is a pianist, keyboardist and arranger who is comfortable with all musical styles. Richard performed and arranged the music for the documentary Ruth and Billy Graham: What Grace Provides for which he earned an Emmy nomination. He also writes commercial music for TV and radio. As a songwriter, Richard's "Too Good to Turn Back Now" reached the Billboard Top 100.
Richard continues to thrill us with his arrangements of the songwriters’ compositions just as he did with his first recording of the 2011 Solatido songs. We are so grateful that he has agreed to work with us for another season of songwriting. We'll record our CD in advance of the Thursday night concert, so that we can totally enjoy the performance and our grateful audience of writers from the Table Rock Writers Workshop!

“I keep coming back to Solatido for the long view of the blue, blue mountain ridges, the morning and evening mists, oatmeal at breakfast, singing late into the night, adding harmonies to newly written songs, catching up with returning friends, meeting new songwriters, being inspired by the writers who share our time and space.
I come back for the luxury of time devoted to music and writing songs. It is simply necessary for me to be there. “
